Naya Rivera Talks Mourning Cory Monteith With ‘Glee’ Cast

Glee is still mourning the sudden loss of cast member Cory Monteith. Now filming the show’s fifth season in his wake, series star Naya Rivera says the cast members are managing to cope together.

“We’re definitely taking it day by day,” Rivera tells the October 2013 issue of Latina of grieving Monteith, who passed away in July. “Everybody’s really just leaning on each other and trying to do good work.”

That work now includes singer Demi Lovato, who joins the Fox hit in the upcoming season as the love interest of cheerleader Santana Lopez, a groundbreaking role Rivera is grateful to play.

“There are very few ethnic LGBT characters on television, so I am honored to represent them,” she says of her Glee role. “I love supporting this cause, but it’s a big responsibility, and sometimes it’s a lot of pressure on me.”

In her personal life, Rivera is not one to hide her love. The actress has made no secret of her rapper beau Big Sean, who she first stepped out with back in April.

“We know so many who are in the public eye dating somebody, and they’re going in through back entrances and won’t make eye contact with each other,” she explains. “That’s just not us.”

The new issue of Latina hits stands Setp. 10.
