Ariel Castro Commits Suicide in Prison
Ariel Castro, the man who held three women captive in his home for about a decade, was found hanging in his prison cell around 9:20 p.m. Tuesday at the Correctional Reception Center in Orient, Ohio, prison officials confirmed Wednesday. Prison medical staff performed CPR before transporting Castro to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:52PM.
Castro, 53, was serving a life sentence, plus 1,000 years, after pleading guilty to 937 counts, including the kidnapping and rape of Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight. They escaped on May 6.
