In the October 2013 issue of Lucky, the 39-year-old actress pretty much talks about everything but Ryan Gosling.
“You can ask about my boyfriend. I just won’t answer,” Mendes says.
The remark should come as no surprise to fans of the couple, who began dating some two years ago.
Instead, the two have let their movies do the talking. Earlier this year, Mendes played Gosling’s baby mama in A Place Beyond the Pines. This summer, the pair filmed Gosling’s directorial debut How to Catch a Monster, along with Christina Hendricks and Matt Smith.
Here are some other highlights from Mendes’ Lucky chat:
On body image and her movies:
“Weight is not my issue. I’ll do anything for a role. For A Place Beyond the Pines, I exercised a lot. I wanted my character to feel really depleted. But my mom didn’t understand why I would want to look that way. She’s constantly telling me I’m too skinny!”
On her early days:
“You do six auditions a day, you’re changing in your car, you’re living off the coins in your change drawer and having Taco Bell for breakfast, lunch and dinner.”
On self-esteem and clothing:
“There are days when I don’t feel great, but I put on my favorite dress and throw a scarf in my hair, and it makes all the difference.”
