Hugh Jackman, Wife Deborra-Lee Furness on Their Marriage: ‘It Gets Better Every Year’
The Wolverine hunk and his wife of nearly two decades recently sat down with Town & Country magazine, and it looks like nothing was off the table.
“It gets better every year,” Furness tells the magazine’s October 2013 issue. “And here we are, 18 years. Is it 18?”
The Aussie actress also dishes on how she likes her man, considering the diverse roles he’s taken in recent years.
“I like him clean-shaven. But I like him all ways: chubby, muscley, skinny,” she says. “I’m always having affairs.”
Not enough cute for some readers? Jackman also goes into detail on the early days of their romance. The couple first met in 1995 on the set of a TV show in Melbourne. When it came time to propose, Jackman, now 44, was a bit hesitant.
“So, I decided, I won’t ask her to marry me for six months,” he says. “Then after four months I thought, ‘That’s the most ridiculous rule!’”
The pair wed in April 1996 and later adopted two children, Oscar Maximillian and Ava Eliot.
Furman, 55, has been working with the Worldwide Orphan Fund in Australia to create National Adoption Awareness Week.
“I’m working with Americans to create an international campaign to shine a light on the fact that there are 153 million orphans in the world. If that were a country, it would be the ninth-largest in the world, just ahead of Russia,” she tells Town & Country.
Jackman’s new film, Prisoners, opens Sept. 20. His next X-Men movie, Days of Future Past, is due in 2014.
