Charlie Hunnam Talks ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ and Being Ready for Those Sex Scenes
The man who will play Christian Grey on the big screen has emerged for the first time since being hired for the job.
On Saturday, Charlie Hunnam suited up for the season 6 premiere event for his hit TV show Sons of Anarchy, but all eyes quickly focused on everything related to Fifty Shades of Grey.
Hunnam dished on how he scored the coveted role and what it was like facing Dakota Johnson (Anastasia Steele) for the first time.
“As soon as we got in the room and started reading with Dakota, I knew that I definitely wanted to do it, because there was a tangible chemistry between us,” the 33-year-old British actor told reporters. [via The Hollywood Reporter]
“It felt kind of exciting and fun and weird and compelling, so that was it.”
As for the much talked about racy content in E.L. James’ bestseller, Hunnam said there’s nothing to worry about. He’s got it covered.
“My first job was on a Channel 4 miniseries called Queer as Folk. It was incredibly explicit sexual scenes with a man,” he said. “I mean I’m 16 and 17 years wiser now. So if I could do it when I was 18 with a guy, I can certainly do it at 33 with a lady.”
Fifty Shades of Grey will begin production in Vancouver, Canada later this fall. The film is slated for an August 2014 release.
