Simon Cowell Gushes Over Baby News on 'Ellen': 'I’m Actually Happier Than I’ve Ever Been'

Your eyes haven’t deceived you: Simon Cowell is really smiling and laughing in this new interview with Ellen DeGeneres.

In the new episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, airing Tuesday, Cowell opens up about his impending fatherhood and goes on to defend baby mama Lauren Silverman.

Oh my God, this is exciting,” he says of the time the baby news broke. “And it’s going to be a bit of a nightmare for the next few weeks . . . everyone knows, it’s well documented. It was kind of uncomfortable, you know, the situation.”

“But these things happen and everything’s kind of calm now and I’m happy. In fact, I’m actually happier than I’ve ever been.”

Cowell, 53, and Silverman, 36, made headlines earlier this summer when it was reported that the New York socialite was pregnant with the couple’s first child. In August, Silverman reached a divorce settlement with real estate mogul Andrew Silverman.

“I can’t blame the media, it was a juicy story but here was a lot of stuff that was said about her, that she trapped me, that she’s a gold-digger, it was absolute nonsense. She’s a great girl,” Cowell tells DeGeneres.

“It was awkward because of the circumstances.”
