Vin Diesel’s ‘Riddick’ Wins Weekend Box Office with $18.7M
The man who can see in the dark is a box office winner.
Riddick, the third installment of The Chronicles of Riddick film franchise, grossed some $18.7 million this weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Lee Daniels’ The Butler and the Spanish-language comedy Instructions Not Included finished in the top three with $8.9 million and $8.1 million, respectively.
Vin Diesel returns as the title character in Riddick, which follows our antihero as he tries to escape mercenaries and alien predators.
The film, which comes nearly a decade after the last installment, 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick, also stars Karl Urban, Katee Sackoff and Matt Nable.
Last week’s topper One Direction: This is Us dropped to sixth place, with another $4.1 million in the bank. The 3-D documentary about the hottest group in the universe has grossed nearly $24 million to date.
