Leah Remini: I ‘Lost Friends’ After Leaving Scientology

Continuing her press tour about kissing the Scientology goodbye, Leah Remini stopped by the Ellen show to say she’s “OK” since cutting ties with the controversial Church.

“We lost friends who can no longer talk to us who are still in the organization. These are friends that we’ve had for dozens of years,” Remini, 43, told host Ellen DeGeneres on Monday. “But our family’s stronger. We’re together. We have other friends, who are not in the church, who have stood by us and that’s all we can ask for.”

As for the reason behind her recent departure, Remini remained vague, offering up something of a broken-record response — albeit, less revealing — that she’s given in the past.

“My mother got involved when we were very young, so it’s all we really knew,” Remini said. “But over time, my eyes got opened and I could just no longer be affiliated with the organization, and my family felt the same, so we left.”

Now it’s on to new hopeful, glittery horizons for Remini: ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, which kicks off with on Sept. 16.
