Ben Affleck on Batfleck Backlash: 'I Handle Sh*t'

No one was surprised when the Internet erupted with an onslaught of hate when news that Ben Affleck was cast as Batman in the new Man of Steel sequel. Well, no one except the actor himself.

The two-time Oscar winner sat down for an interview on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Monday night and spoke candidly about his reaction to the fallout from the casting announcement, saying that despite being a "big boy," he still wasn't prepared for just how harsh the Internet could be.

"[Warner Bros.] said, 'Just don't use the Internet for a couple days,' and I said, 'I handle sh*t. I'm very tough,'" he said. "So I saw the announcement, I look on this thing, I look down at the first comment -- it's like, 'Ben Affleck is going to be Batman,' -- the first one just goes 'Nooooooo!'

"So we're going to be luddites for a while, kids," Affleck added, chuckling.

But fans of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight can breathe a sigh of relief as Affleck confirmed that his take on the Caped Crusader will be nothing like Christian Bale's.

"Obviously, you can't do what Chris and Christian did," he said. "Those movies are amazing, and he wanted to do something different and still in keeping with that. And so I thought, this is a brilliant way to do this, and I really want to hook into this."

Don't worry, Ben, at least you've got Joss Whedon and Matt Damon's support on this.
