Madonna Announces Short Film in Support of Freedom of Expression to be Released on BitTorrent
We now know more about Madonna and Steven Klein’s “secretrevolutionproject.” The two released a trailer two weeks ago, but didn’t say much else about what they were teasing. As it turns out, “secretrevolutionproject” is a short film about freedom of expression. The film will be released via BitTorrent on Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. EST. It can be downloaded for free on BitTorrent, a site usually associated with digital piracy.
It’s connected to Art for Freedom, a global initiative to furthering the cause of freedom of expression. Created by Madonna, in association with VICE, the site will encourage others to send in original art dedicated to freedom of expression.
Madonna spoke about the project in a statement, via IndieWire: “My goal is to show by the example of secretprojectrevolution my creative commitment to inspire change in the world through artistic expression. I hope my film and other submission to Art For Freedom will be a call-to-action and give people a place to voice their own creative expression to help fight oppression, intolerance and complacency.”
The film will be distributed on a relatively new platform called BitTorrent Bundle. Its goal is to allow artists with a tool to distribute work of any file type or size. You can download “secretrevolutionproject” for free. It will also come with bonus content like film stills, exclusive interviews and a message from Madonna.
