Tom Clancy Dead at 66

Tom Clancy, author of spy novels like The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger, has died, his publisher confirms the news to the New York Times. Clancy was 66 years old.

Clancy passed away Tuesday night in a Baltimore hospital, his cause of death is not yet known.

Clancy was best known for his Jack Ryan series of novels about a post-Cold War CIA agent. The Jack Ryan books have been made into several films with Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck playing Ryan. Another Jack Ryan movie, this one with an original story not written by Clancy, starring Chris Pine is due out this December.
