Charlie Hunnam Pulls Out of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’

In a move that will please many,* Charlie Hunnam has decided to not be a part of the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Universal pictures and Focus Features released the following statement:

The filmmakers of FIFTY SHADES OF GREY and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.

One can’t help but assume that part of Hunnam’s decision not to play Grey was due to the public’s reaction to the casting news.

“There are so many fans of that book and I know that on the surface, I’m probably not what everybody imagined,” Hunnam told EW.  “Because reading is so personal and people bring a character to life in their imagination, they feel ownership over that character.”

Might I suggest we revisit the original contenders?  First pick: Colin Egglesfield, for obvious reasons.  The man has a clean-cut jawline, and would look damn good in a pair of worn-in jeans whilst giving it to Anastasia in the red room.

I’ve said too much.

*You’re quite dishy, Mr. Hunnam, but we simply didn’t have you in mind to play Christian Grey.
