First Melissa McCarthy is on the cover of Elle, and now Anna Wintour wants Lena Dunham on the cover of Vogue. Could Vogue‘s beauty standards be expanding to include women of all shapes and sizes? According to Radar Online, Ms. Wintour is hosting a special dinner in Lena’s honor in an attempt to lure the Girls creator into posing for the magazine. Dunham, who has nabbed two Golden Globes and eight Emmy nominations for her the HBO series, is often seen naked on the show and has claimed she would not trade her figure for a Victoria’s Secret model’s (or perhaps a Vogue cover model?).
Lena’s refusal to conform to typical Hollywood beauty standards has been both applauded and criticized, but the quirky phenom has only steeled herself against the critics, even poking fun at the brouhaha by eating cake on a toilet for the 2012 Emmys opening skit. Is Anna tossing out Vogue’s history of thin, gorgeous cover models in a bid to woo a younger audience to the mag? Or is she trying to make a statement about the times a-Changin’? Hmm. But the real question is will Lena see the move as a sellout or a chance to change perceptions?
