Katy Perry: “I Was Pretty F**ked” After Russell Brand Split

Katy Perry has never been one to hold back about her divorce with Russell Brand, and her latest interview with the Sunday Times is no exception.

“I’m not the kind of person who is always like, ‘What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger,’” the songstress says of the split. “I was in bed for about two weeks. I was pretty f**ked, yes. It hurt a lot—I got a good knock.”

“My self-worth was in someone else’s hands which is never a good idea, because it can be taken from you at any time. And it was, and it was shattered.”

In fact, Perry attributes her breakup with the British comedian as why her latest album, Prism, has taken a darker tone.

“What I wanted to call this record at first was Adult Reality,” she reveals. Teenage Dream was me so high on that cotton-candy cloud, and then it’s like I got punched in the face and kicked down the stairs a couple of times.”

She continues, “I had to face the reality that things are not always on cloud nine. I was down and out, I’d lost hope.”

However, things for Perry are looking up these days. The “Roar” crooner recently collaborated with beau John Mayer on a duet titled “Who You Love” and even got matching semi-trucks to promote their respective records. Awww.
