Liberty Ross on Rupert and Kristen's Affair: "It was Horrible"
Liberty Ross talks to Vanity Fair about the end of her marriage to Rupert Sanders
“It was horrible,” the model told contributing editor Evgenia Peretz. “It was really the worst, really the worst.”
Despite Sanders' attempts to save their marriage, Ross filed for divorce in early 2013.
“I have no words to describe what we went through,” Ross added. “But I think, for me, something always has to completely die for there to be a rebirth. And, for me, I feel like I’m going through a rebirth.”
Sanders told Ross about the photos of him kissing Stewart near a Hollywood park about 20 hours before they were due to surface.
A family friend offered Ross her home up the coast, where the model and her two children were able to find some peace.
“I was able to be there completely secluded,” Ross told Peretz. “I just visualized [being] this sort of Masai warrior. I was just going to stand very still and very strong, and just let it all roll past me. I tried to keep as far away from it as I could and to understand that this is my family and it’s the most precious thing to me.”
Though the affair, which began while Sanders directed Snow White and the Huntsman, took Ross by surprise, she admitted that her relationship with Sanders had changed well before the photos went public.
"I knew that I wasn’t feeling 100 percent right. I found myself on a roller coaster, like, I’m going to keep things moving, keep things going. I’m going to keep up this amazing [façade], everyone looking at me and Rupert, thinking, Oh, wow, you guys have it all…. Really, I had times when I felt very lonely, very disconnected from Rupert. We’d lost our real connection.”
Ross is currently dating Interscope Records co-founder Jimmy Iovine.
