Amber Portwood Leaves Jail, May Return to TV

Teen Mom star Amber Portwood, who was sentenced to five years in jail for violating her probation stemming from a drug possession case, is a free woman.

17 months into her stay at Rockville Correctional Facility in Rockville, Indiana, Portwood was released on account of her good behavior, time served and completions of two prison courses, according to TMZ.   Before jail, Portwood completed a rehab stint at Seasons Recovery Center in Malibu, CA.

It appears that MTV sees another opportunity to exploit Portwood, who has been duking it out with her baby daddy, Gary Shirley since the show premiered.

The network plans to air a special on Portwood’s incarceration and release; The Ashley reports that a camera crew recorded Portwood’s release, and have interview both Shirley and the couple’s daughter, Leah.

Back in 2011, Portwood’s brother, Shawn told E! that the network ruined his sister’s life, as well as the lives of her Teen Mom co-stars.

MTV plays ‘Teen Mom’ to help promote abstinence and prevent teens from getting pregnant,” Portwood said. “But at the same time, they play a disgusting show known as ‘Jersey Shore,’ which promotes unsafe sex and drinking.

“How is it possible to air two totally different shows and feel like they are making a difference in the world?

“Plus, they say teen pregnancy has gone down, yet they are airing [another season of] ’16 and Pregnant.’”
