Vanessa Carlton Opens Up About Losing Her Pregnancy, Canceling Tour Dates
Having canceled several stops on her current tour, Vanessa Carlton has released a very personal letter detailing her recent medical struggles that caused her to lose her pregnancy. In the letter, Carlton, who only recently announced she was pregnant, says she was diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy in mid-October. In an ectopic pregnancy, the fertilized embryo attaches to the mother’s fallopian tube, rather than traveling all the way into her uterus.
Carlton says she was given a shot and told by her doctors to stay close, but she’d hoped everything would be okay. Unfortunately, it wasn’t. She writes:
“This past Monday, Oct 28th, 11 days after the chemo shot and despite our best efforts, my tube started to rupture and I was experiencing internal bleeding … My doctor performed a successful surgery and removed my entire right fallopian tube.”
Carlton goes on to say that, though the surgery was successful, she’s now experiencing nerve pain on one of her incision sites. “I need to stay close to my doctors and the hospital in case this initial pain turns into something more serious,” she says in the letter. “I’m ready to get back out there mentally though and if all goes even remotely as planned I will be ready for San Francisco.”
Despite having lost a pregnancy and seeing the inside of an emergency room a few too many times in the past month, Carlton seems in good spirits.
“I’m so bummed about having to jank up this tour. It started off pretty great. My favorite even. Gimme a couple more days, I’ll be ready. Thank you for all your support and understanding through this.”
