Sephora Pulls Kat Von D’s “Celebutard” Lipstick Color
In between Kat Von D‘s Painted Love lipstick colors “Cathedral” and “Coral Castle” sat “Celebutard,” an offensive name that caught the eye of Glee‘s Lauren Potter, as well as disability awareness groups.
The outcry was so powerful that it prompted Sephora to pull the shade from its site and stores.
“Really Sephora? Not cool,” Potter tweeted on November 5th.
According to In Touch Weekly, the beauty giant then issued a statement online apologizing for their oversight:
“Thank you for calling this matter to our attention. We are deeply sorry that the name of this lipstick has caused offense, and we will be ceasing the sale of this shade both in our stores and online.”
Von D, who didn’t seem to grasp the magnitude of her degrading name selection, tweeted (and later deleted) her own version of a statement:
“At the end of the day, it’s just a f**king lipstick,” she wrote.
