Miley Cyrus Explains Why She Prefers the Tattoo Parlor to the Doctor's Office

MTV is feeling a bit nostalgic and looking back on the time a 16-year-old Miley Cyrus swore she’d never get a tattoo.

Oh, how five years can really change a girl’s perspective on body art.

“They could be like 'you know what, this will give you 400 years to live, and I wouldn't do it,” the almost unrecognizable Hannah Montana star told the Total Request Live audience in 2008 wearing bubble gum pink and polka dots.

But the twerk-loving songstress of today always knew scribbles on her feet and portraits of her granny were in her future.

“I was lying,” she confessed in an MTV video released just one day before the network plans on turning the channel over to the “Wrecking Ball” singer for her 21st birthday special. “I always knew I was going to get tattooed.”

But she had to get passed one mental hurdle first.

“I’m actually terrified of needles," Miley said. "When I go to the doctor they look at me like I’m insane because I try to push them and kick them away from me and I need to be sedated.

“The doctors office is cold, it’s much more cozy in a tattoo parlor.”

Now, it’s 21 tats and counting, only fitting for the pop star who will be celebrating the milestone in 24 hours.

Tune in to MTV Saturday, Nov. 23 for an 8-hour celebration of Cyrus’ 21st birthday, hosted by none other than Miley herself. It all starts at 12 p.m. ET/PT with the debut of 21 Candles: Miley’s MTV Moments.
