Remembering Paul Walker: His Life As a Dad

Warning: Be prepared to bawl your eyes out.

People Magazine looked back on a 2011 interview with the late Paul Walker, in which he spoke about his daughter, Meadow Rose.

Walker and his then-girlfriend, Rebecca McBrain welcomed Meadow when he was 23, and the teen recently moved to California to be closer to her dad.

During the morning drive to school, Walker told People his method to bonding with Meadow.

“I just shut up, sit back and stay quiet,” he said.  “She opens up and reveals a whole lot. The trick is to not ask questions, just listen. I’m figuring it out.”

Walker admitted he wasn’t mature enough to get married after having Meadow.

It was tough,” Walker to WENN. “I was one of those ones who believed when you get married it’s forever. But I was thinking down the road. I knew where I was at with chicks and having fun … I was an animal.”

Meadow grew up in Hawaii with her mother, and Walker would visit, picking her up from school and teaching her how to longboard.

When Meadow finally relocated to Los Angeles, Walker was elated.

“She’s the best partner I’ve ever had,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “I’ve never had anything like this in my life. I’ve been so transient, I’ve been on my own since I was 16. … There’s a part of me who feels like I’m making up for lost time.”

Walker died in a fatal car crash on Saturday alongside friend Richard Rodas after attending a charity event for Reach Out Worldwide.  Meadow was there that day to support her father.
