Jenji Kohan Will Write a Salem Witch Series for HBO

And the witch trend continues. Orange is the New Black and Weeds creator Jenji Kohan is developing a series for HBO about the Salem witch trials. The Hollywood Reporter writes that the period drama will be co-written by Kohan, Bruce Miller (Eureka, ER) and Tracy Miller. It describes the show as “provocative.”

Witches are very trendy right now, between American Horror Story: Coven, Sleepy Hollow, Witches of East End, True Blood, The Vampire Diaries and a planned Charmed reboot. Plus, Kohan specializes in women who are othered by society in one way or another. No casting has been announced, but with Kohan’s track record of writing complicated, Emmy-buzzy lead female roles, this will likely be a highly sought-after audition.

The show doesn’t yet have a name but I’ve put together some suggestions based on the names of other HBO shows: (Witch) Girls, Looking (for Witches) or True (Witch) Detective. Jenji, if you’re reading this, feel free to help yourself.
