Stars Remember Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela, who became South Africa’s first black president in 1994, passed away at home today.  The man who spent over 25 years in prison and helped to end apartheid, is remembered as a freedom fighter and an international icon of peace.

In an essay for Time Magazine, U2’s Bono wrote of Mandela: “He had humor and humility in his bearing, and he was smarter and funnier than the parade of world leaders who flocked to see him. He would bait his guests: ‘What would a powerful man like you want with an old revolutionary like me?'”
