Kanye West Is Really Pissed About His Two Grammy Nominations

By: Gabrielle Chung / December 11, 2013

Kanye West wasn’t shy when pal Beyonce was snubbed for an award. So naturally, the rapper had a few strong words for the Grammys committee when they announced that he’ll only be nominated for two golden gramophones — Best Rap Song and Best Rap Album — at the 2014 ceremony.

Taking to the stage during his concert in Phoenix this Tuesday, Yeezy unleashed a lengthy rant about getting two nods, accusing the Grammys of not giving his latest album, Yeezus, any respect despite its critical success.

“I’m 36 years old and I have 21 Grammys. That’s the most Grammys of any 36-year-old. Out of all of those 21 Grammys, I’ve never won a Grammy against a white artist,” he told the crowd. “And Yeezus is the top one or two album on every single list. But only gets two nominations from the Grammys. What are they trying to say? Do they think that I wouldn’t notice?”

“Do they think that, [in] some way, I don’t have the power to completely diminish all of their credibility at this moment?” West continued. “When you see me talking about what people are doing when I say ‘marginalized,’ when I say ‘boxed in,’ when I say ‘hold back,’ when I say people are afraid of the truth, that’s one example right there in front of you. And people come to me and congratulate me on those two nominations. F**k those nominations!”

Though snubbed from the Best Album of the Year category, in which the likes of Taylor Swift, Daft Punk and Kendrick Lamar were nominated, Yeezus was named the best album of 2013 by Spin and the year’s second best record by Rolling Stone magazine. Late musician Lou Reed even cited West’s LP as “majestic and inspiring,” adding that “no one’s near doing what [West's] doing” in the music industry.

Earlier this year, West told fans at a London concert that “the Grammys can suck my d**k” despite winning three awards at the 2013 ceremony.
