Anna Paquin Has Been Completely Cut From 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'
It looks like Rogue won't be making an appearance in Bryan Singer's forthcoming superhero flick, X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the director reveals that actress Anna Paquin's one and only scene -- a rescue sequence with Magneto (Ian McKellen), Professor X (Patrick Stewart) and Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) -- in the movie has been left on the cutting room floor.
“Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous,” explains Singer. “It’s a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it. But like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches and it was just one of the things that had to go. Unfortunately, it was the one and only sequence Anna Paquin was in, the Rogue character was in. Even though she’s in the materials and part of the process of making the film, she won’t appear in it.”
Adding that Paquin's acting had nothing to do with the decision, Singer says he has already informed the True Blood star of the change and she "completely understood" the situation.
"It’s very disappointing, but she’s very professional and she knows that stuff happens, particularly with material you shoot early on in production. Films evolve," he says.
Though Paquin has been omitted from the film, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry and Ellen Page are still set to return onscreen when X-Men: Days of Future Past opens May 23, 2014.
