Keanu Reeves’ ’47 Ronin’ Expected to Be Huge Box Office Bomb

Former box office darling Keanu Reeves is having a rough go of it as of late.

Variety is reporting that Universal stuido is poised to write off huge losses on 47 Ronin, which had already opened poorly in Japan ahead of its Christmas Day North American bow.

With a total global haul of only $13m so far, 47 Ronin is the worst performing film with a budget of more than $150m in 2013, according to the trade bible.

The film finished sixth on Thursday with a paltry $3.4 million.

47 Ronin had some major delays in getting to movie theaters, with the original release delayed by a year after makers Universal reportedly insisted on reshoots to give Reeves more screen time.

It is one of a string of high-profile movies to under-perform in 2013, with other box office bombs including Johnny Depp epic The Lone Ranger and the Will Smith sci-fi adventure After Earth.
