‘Glee’ Storyline Moving to NYC For the Rest of the Season

In a move that probably should have taken place last season, when Glee returns after its winter break on February 25, the show’s storyline will move exclusively to New York City for the rest of season five as well as its final season next year.

Fox’s Programming President Kevin Reilly shared the news at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour saying, “We do have it through next season, and that will be its final season.”

Reilly noted that showrunner Ryan Murphy has pitched an arc through the end of season six. “He’s got some fantastic ideas on what we’re going to do next year for the final year.”

“Some are going to be graduating and moving; creatively, it would be ridiculous that everybody moves to New York,” he said, declining to provide specific details on which characters will be making the move. “There will be some that will graduate and move on and they’ll arc back in when we do special episodes. They’ll always be a part of it. The way it’s going to dovetail next season, we’ll see some familiar faces coming around in some capacity. But for this season, there will be a graduation, several of the cast members will move on and a few others will go to New York.”

Jane Lynch and Matthew Morrison are expected to make the move, but Melissa Benoist, Blake Jenner, Alex Newell, Jacob Artist and Becca Tobin’s roles in the show are all up in the air.
