Philip Seymour Hoffman's Passing Will Not Affect 'The Hunger Games' Release Dates
The two movies may not have been the last he worked on, as he is set to appear in two other films with release dates in 2014, but, for a generation of fans that only knew him as Plutarch Heavensbee, they will be the last time he is seen on the big screen.
A source close to the production has assured CB! that Philip's work on Mockingjay - Part 1 was entirely complete and he had just seven days left of filming for Part 2. The tragedy will not affect the films' scheduled release dates of November 21st, 2014 and November 20th, 2015 respectively. It isn't clear if any remaining scenes will need to be cut down or eliminated from either film.
Lionsgate responded to the sad news of Hoffman's passing in a statement that reads:
"Philip Seymour Hoffman was a singular talent and one of the most gifted actors of our generation. We're very fortunate that he graced our Hunger Games family. Losing him in his prime is a tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Philip's family."Among his Hunger Games costars, Sam Claflin, who appeared in last year's The Hunger Games: Catching Fire as Finnick Odair, was the first to respond to the tragedy.
PSH - I am genuinely shocked, saddened and speechless. A truly wonderful man, with a magical touch. My hero. Thoughts are with his family.
