Hollywood mourns the tragic loss of the Oscar winner.
Matt Damon stopped by Good Morning America today to discuss his new film The Monuments Men with host Robin Roberts. But before the two delved into the World War II drama, Robin brought up the tragic passing of Philip Seymour Hoffman, Damon’s co-star in The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999). Matt replied, “He was one of the best actors that ever lived, without a doubt. And an even better person. He was a beautiful, beautiful person.”

Damon and Hoffman appeared together in the crime drama, The Talented Mr. Ripley, alongside Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow who referred to Hoffman as a “true genius” in the caption of this old photo she shared on her Instagram account:

“Ischia 1998, post dinner, post shooting…Philip was a true genius. #philipseymourhoffman”
