Drake Says What We're All Thinking About Macklemore, Calls Him "Wack as F**k"
Immediately following his Grammy wins, Macklemore sent fellow nominee Kendrick Lamar a text message telling him that it should have been him onstage accepting the award. This is a fact the world knows because Macklemore then posted a screenshot of the text conversation to his Instagram account.
To publicize his own so-called humility was blatant self promotion and bizarrely tone deaf, but the move was heralded at the time as being classy. Finally someone has come out and called out Macklemore. That person is, of course, Drake.
"That shit was wack as fuck," Drake told Rolling Stone of the text message. "I was like, 'You won. Why are you posting your text message? Just chill. Take your W, and if you feel you didn't deserve it, go get better — make better music. It felt cheap. It didn't feel genuine. Why do that? Why feel guilt? You think those guys would pay homage to you if they won?"
Drake himself had four nominations but zero wins at this year's Grammys. He lost Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance and Best Rap album to Macklemore. No one texted him. :-(
As for his loses, Drake seems to be taking it all in stride. "This is how the world works: He made a brand of music that appealed to more people than me, Hov, Kanye and Kendrick," Drake said, referring to the Best Rap album nominees. "Whether people wanna say it's racial, or whether it's just the fact that he tapped into something we can't tap into. That's just how the cards fall. Own your shit."
