Dakota Johnson Thinks Being Anastasia Steele Is “Kind of Boring”

Not everything is greyer greener on the other side.

According to Dakota Johnson, who is currently filming the adaptation of E.L. JamesFifty Shades of Grey, preparing for one of the most highly-anticipated movies of all-time is actually “kind of boring.”

Speaking with Vanity Fair, the 24-year-old spills the beans on preparing for her big role. According to the actress, being Anastasia Steele is kind of ho-hum.

“[I did] a lot of getting into the character’s head — Ana’s headspace — kind of before she meets Christian,” Johnson explains. “So it’s a lot of reading, which I love. But she’s an English major, so that’s kind of boring.”

Despite the menial research, Johnson says she still won’t talk about her work day with her parents, actress Melanie Griffith and actor Don Johnson.

“I think that I would love to have them experience it with me, but I can’t really do that, just because of what it entails,” she says. “I talk to them more about problems with my landlords. That’s my talking point with my family.”

Johnson adds of working with co-star Jamie Dornan and director Sam Taylor-Wood, “It’s been a very smooth, fun and creative experience. I think going into something like this you kind of have all these different fears of what it could be like, and none of those things are happening.”

“We all get a long really well, the crew is amazing and we’re just all trying to make this project the best that it can be.”
