Melissa McCarthy Makes Another Loser Lovable in ‘Tammy’
As a comedian, one of Melissa McCarthy’s most remarkable talents is to take the weirdos she plays and make them lovable. Because what’s funny about someone you’re not rooting for? It looks like McCarthy’s done it again in Tammy.
Since the plot is a little hazy from this teaser, allow me to explain. In Tammy, McCarthy plays an employee of the burger joint you see her robbing. After losing her job and finding out her husband is cheating, Tammy goes on a road trip with her profane, drunken grandmother Pearl. (Pearl is, by the way, played by Susan Sarandon.) Why yes, I think Tammy just did become your most anticipated film of 2014.
In case all that wasn’t incentive enough, Tammy was co-written by McCarthy and her husband Ben Falcone, who directed the movie.
