Chelsea Handler plans to walk away from the E! network once her contract there is up at the end of the year. Her manager Irving Azoff tells The Hollywood Reporter that “Chelsea intends to leave when her contract expires.”
Handler has been vocal about her dissatisfaction with E! for some time now, calling it both a “failure” and “a sad, sad place to live” on The Howard Stern Show recently. When Handler hired Azoff last October, it was widely speculated that Handler was eyeing her next big move and now the team has confirmed that. “[Handler] hired me to figure out her life after E!,” Azoff told THR. “We have at least seven suitors and many ideas.”
While it’s unlikely that Handler would bring Chelsea Lately as is to another network, Azoff says that Handler is looking to have a radio presence or a possible weekly or nightly television show following her departure from E!. For her part, Handler has previously mentioned that she sees a place like Netflix as a good partner for her.
So far E! has not commented, saying: “Chelsea has nine months left on her contract and E! will not comment on the future of Chelsea Lately at this time.”
