Rob Lowe Reveals Justin Bieber's 'Dark Secret'
From sex tapes to drug abuse, Rob Lowe has seen his own fair share of controversy, which might explain the reason behind his empathy toward Justin Bieber.
The 50-year-old actor confessed he feels a bit different toward the "Baby" singer than most other celebrities because he knows Bieber's "dark secret."
During her interview with Lowe on Oprah Prime Sunday evening, Oprah Winfrey took a moment to ask him about the teenage stars in Hollywood today, specifically pointing out Justin Bieber. "I have tremendous empathy," he said of the 20-year-old singer.
"He makes really good music, he does," Lowe admitted. "But I think he knows the dark secret, and the dark secret is 80 percent of his audience doesn't give a sh*t about the music. And he knows it. It bums him out."
He continued, "They care about lemming-think and their little girlfriends and who's oohing and aahing. It has nothing to do with what he's doing as an artist. He is the guy who's standing in front of them at a moment they're going through a developmental thing. It's natural, it's all great, but if it wasn't him, it would be somebody else like it was me."
Lowe also discussed his love for rehab and how it helped him revamp his life.
"I don't know what that says about me. I didn't love the fact that I had to go and it was absolutely painful, but I liked the science," he confessed to Winfrey. "I couldn't have gotten sober without rehab because I needed the science. I need to [learn about] addiction and what it does to your body and all of the research."
Perhaps Justin Bieber will take a page out of his book and seek help for himself, too.
