Girl Talk With Girl Talk
When you’ve created multiple hit records using over 300 samples from songs spanning all genres, it’s safe to say that you know a few things about today’s music landscape. So naturally, we just had to get Gregg Gillis a.k.a. the mash-up pioneer known as Girl Talk to give us the lowdown on some of music’s most talked-about ladies at this year’s Coachella.
Without further ado, here is some girl talk with, well, Girl Talk.
What do you think of Katy Perry?
“Boobs … She obviously has amazing boobs and everyone knows that but she’s honestly my favorite modern pop person from the past 15 years. Musically, I like her more than just about anyone and I’m just really down with her musical output. I just wanted to say that in addition to boobs.”
“My first thought when I hear Lady Gaga is that I like [her] when she looks really plain. I just want to say that. I like when Lady Gaga just dresses like a human being. I hope for more of that in the future.”
“The God. Transcending pop culture.”
“The legend. A true American hero.”
“The icon. The great American hero.”
“A classic. I mean, [she’s] the first to potentially [use] autotune. I don’t know if that’s true, but I want to say the first official use of autotune.”
“I don’t know much about Demi Lovato but I think her people invited me to perform with her at the VMAs and I couldn’t do that. She’s a little off my radar but I’ve got to say [I’m a ] big fan still.”
Okay, she’s not really a pop star, but what about Oprah Winfrey?
“The pioneer. Another great American hero. Oprah’s Oprah, you know? She made Pharrell cry! God bless.”
But seriously, if Oprah wanted to do a record, would you do it?
“A record with her? Oh, absolutely!”
