Seth Meyers Will Host This Year’s Emmy Awards

NBC has tapped Seth Meyers to host the 2014 Emmy Awards, according to Variety. It’s not a surprising choice; as NBC’s newest late night host, Meyers could benefit from the added attention hosting the Emmys would give him and his show.

In fact, Jimmy Fallon was chosen to host the Emmys in 2010, about 18 months after he replaced Conan O’Brien as host of Late Night.

“Seth’s expertise and ease in front of a live audience during his time at SNL, as well as his comedic brilliance both as a writer and in front of the camera on SNL and Late Night, makes him the perfect choice to host the Emmys,” said NBC’s Paul Telegdy of the choice.

While it’s a major step up, it’s not Meyers’ first time hosting, he hosted the ESPY Awards both in 2010 and 2011.

This year’s Emmy Awards fall on the last Monday in August, rather than the usual mid-September Sunday, due to NBC’s Sunday Night Football commitments. Just this week, MTV announced it had scheduled the Video Music Awards (back in California this year) on Aug. 24, just one night before the Emmys.
