For almost a year, we’ve seen and heard snippets about the production of The Leftovers, which stars Liv Tyler, Amy Brenneman and Justin Theroux, about life after a rapture-like event. Now we’ve got a full trailer.
The show takes place three years after the mass disappearance, which saw 2% of the world’s population gone in an instant. Think about how insane CNN’s missing plane coverage has been and now imagine if 140,000,000 people went missing. That’s what the show should be, just people who can’t escape CNN’s dumb simulators and touchscreen technology.
Anyway, the show from Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta is based on Perrotta’s 2011 book of the same name. While the trailer doesn’t really give much away, it gives a good sense of who the players are. Everyone seems to be pretty upset about the disappearance still, and there’s some sort of chain-smoking cult who wear white robes and picket things? There’s also plenty of sex and violence and some heavy imagery.
The Leftovers‘ 10-episode first season premieres on HBO on June 29.
