The life story of Whitney Houston is coming to the (small) screen. Lifetime has announced it will air a Houston biopic starring Yaya DaCosta and directed by Angela Bassett. DaCosta you may remember from her roles in Lee Daniels’ The Butler and The Kids Are Alright or if you were really paying attention you’ll remember her from America’s Next Top Model.
The movie will reportedly focus on Houston’s meteoric rise to fame and her turbulent relationship with husband Bobby Brown. Her family not to happy about it. Pat Houston, Whitney’s sister-in-law told TMZ: “Whitney is certainly worthy of more than a television movie. If Whitney were here today, this would not be happening.” I wouldn’t expect to hear any of Whitney Houston’s actual songs in the movie, since it’d be the family in charge of licensing them.
Regardless, a Whitney Houston biopic will probably be a huge television event, let’s just hope it’s not the schadenfreude-fest that Liz and Dick was.
