In one of those crazy life imitating art (or is it art imitating life?) Michael Keaton plays an aging actor, attempting to mount a comeback in his new film Birdman.

Keaton's character, Riggan Thomson, most famous for playing iconic superhero, Batman Birdman, is now a somewhat washed up actor trying his hand at Broadway.

The film follows the turbulent days leading up to the play's opening, which see Riggan struggle with his ego as he attempts to recover his family and redeem himself.

The film, directed by Babel's Alejandro González Iñárritu, is billed as a dark comedy and also stars Emma Stone, Edward Norton, Naomi Watts and Zach Galifianakis.

Check out the first teaser trailer above. Birdman hits theaters October 17th.
