'Let's Be Cops' Red Band Trailer: "You Don't Mess With the Law"

Buddy cops are having a bit of a renaissance. Last year was all about the McConaissance, this year is all about the Buddy Copaissance. Following the major success of 22 Jump Street last weekend, here's the red band trailer for Let's Be Cops. While Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr. aren't playing cops in the strictest sense, they are playing characters who, in turn, are playing cops so my theory holds up.

If you've ever wandered what New Girl might look like if it weren't on network television (and, you know, without that pesky new girl), then Let's Be Cops may be a good place to start. The R-rated comedy stars the New Girl co-stars as layabouts who dress up as cops to impress girls and get sucked into the investigation of some sort of crime ring. Also Rob Riggle is somehow involved and isn't that how it always happens?

Describing the movie in March Johnson told Vulture: "It’s just a funny movie. And then we were able to improvise a lot. I think it’s good. It’s one of those movies where it feels like a fun action-comedy that I wanted to be part of, and I wanted to make sure the action was real, so it wasn’t like you don’t ever believe in it."

Let's Be Cops comes out August 13.
