A Major Shakeup Rocks ‘The View’

ABC is cleaning house at The View. Today Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy announced they are both leaving the daytime talk staple.

In a statement, Shepherd announced her departure, saying: “It’s been seven wonderful years on The View and after careful consideration it is time for me to move on. I am extremely grateful to Barbara Walters and [producer] Bill Gedde [sic] for giving me the opportunity. I look forward to the business opportunities that lay ahead for me and I am incredibly grateful to my View family and my fans for supporting me on this journey.” Shortly after Shepard’s announcement, McCarthy announced that she, too, would be leaving.

While their statements make it appear they’re leaving of their own volition, TMZ reports that the two were fired in a mass house cleaning that also cost Bill Geddie, who helped to create The View with Barbara Walters, his job. An ABC statement would seem to corroborate that, reading: “The View will be moving in an exciting new direction next season and ABC has made decisions to evolve the show creatively.”

No word on who will replace Shepherd, McCarthy and Walters who retired earlier this year.
