‘The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby’ Trailer: Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy Fall Madly In and Out of Love
You hear that? That’s the sound of Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy pulling on my heartstrings with this mighty first trailer for their film The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby.
The Ned Benson project is actually three films telling three sides of the same love story. Him and Her, which debuted at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival, will both enjoy a limited release in the fall. Them (trailer, above), premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last month and is slated for a fall release.
The beautiful first look introduces viewers to Eleanor (Chastain) and Connor (McAvoy), from when they first meet to when they ultimately fall apart. Team Eleanor consists of her doting family, which includes William Hurt as her father and Viola Davis as her colleague. Team Connor finds Bill Hader far away from Stefon-land and in one of his more serious roles.
Between the soundtrack and poor Connor's sad eyes when Eleanor disappears (seriously, I hope Bill Hader gives him a great big hug in the film), the trailer makes falling in love seem like the scariest, most frightening thing in the world. But people do it anyway. And that's a beautiful thing.
So, what's it going to take for these lovebirds to get back to some place good? Will they ever get there?
The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby opens nationwide on Sept. 26. Watch the first trailer, above.
