Lucy Hale Describes Her Awkward Audition for ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’

One of the biggest concerns for all women who read the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy was who would play Anastasia Steele in the big-screen adaption.  In fact, I’m pretty sure it was the second biggest question of 2013 (next to: Who will play Christian Grey?!!!).

While many actresses had the chance to audition for the role, not all of them went over so well… Including, Lucy Hale’s.

The Pretty Little Liars actress described the experience in one, simply word: “Awkward.”

She told MTV News, “It actually was just me.  It was a two-page monologue of exactly what you would think it would be.  Very comfortable, but it was sort of one of those things where you just had to go for it or you’re just gonna look lame–hopefully I didn’t look lame.”

Let’s be honest… Unless you’re Scarlett Johansson or Angelina Jolie or Megan Fox (or apparently Dakota Johnson), you’re gonna look lame while reading a sexually charged monologue in a room by yourself.

And Lucy admitted that in her interview, saying the audition was “unlike any audition I have ever done before in my life.”

Just to clarify, she added, “Let’s just say I don’t want my grandmother watching that audition tape!”

LOL! I can only imagine…

So, despite the awkward audition, would Hale have decided to actually take the part if she was cast?

“I think any girl in my demographic would have loved to be a part of it,” she said. “Mainly, I was just interested in doing something risky and doing something a little different than my character on PLL so it took me out of my comfort zone.”
