La Toya Jackson Opens Up About Abusive Ex-Husband, Shares Message for Young Girls in Violent Relationships
Being a member of one of the most famous families in history, La Toya Jackson has seen her fair share of rumors, misconceptions and negative media coverage. However, despite it all, the woman is one of the most genuinely kind people I've ever had the opportunity to interview.
She opened up to me immediately, saying, "I get people all the time that come up to me and go, 'You're so different than I thought you were' and I go 'I am?' and they go, 'Yeah!' because people have all these assumptions of you and they don't know you, but they just assume."
And, of course, being in the Jackson family came with a lot of those said assumptions. "With my family in general, with all of us, there were so many different misconceptions of the family," La Toya continued. "And it's like, 'Oh, they're crazy!' and all these terrible things, and they don't know we're just like everyone else."public controversies that encompassed the 58-year-old singer's life was her marriage to her manager Jack Gordon. She opened up to me in great detail about the abusive the relationship and how "terrified" she became that he would eventually kill her.
She explained getting out of the relationship and becoming who she is today has been one of her biggest accomplishments in life. "I am so happy and so thankful and so proud that I was strong enough to lift myself and get out of that situation."
As for women who currently find themselves encompassed in violent relationships, she sends a heartfelt message saying, "Don't ever think that you can never do anything about it. You can!"
