FYI: Billy Bob Thornton is Not a Fan of ‘Cupcake Wars’

TSwift, SelGo, Cupcakes
Just another typical girls' night for Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez.
Leave it to Billy Bob Thornton to tell you what’s wrong with reality shows — especially the ones involving competition.

Over the weekend, Thornton appeared on a brand new episode of Oprah’s Master Class and took a few minutes to pick apart what we’re watching on the small screen these days.

“We’re living in a time that’s just become judgmental and everybody wants to see failure,” he says in the July 20 episode. “You can’t have a television show without a competition because they want to see who cries this week, who goes downhill, who get kicked out.”

“We don’t need one show about cupcakes, as far as I’m concerned,” Thornton, 58, continues. “But you know what? If you’ve got one OK that’s fine, let’s have a show about cupcakes. But does it have to be a f*cking competition? Do you have to have Cupcake . . . Wars? I’m sure people who have been in war kind of take offense to that because seriously, it’s not that . . . dangerous to make a cupcake.”

Thornton, who was recently nominated for a Primetime Emmy for his work on FX’s Fargo, says he’s ready for folks to “know each other again” instead of picking on each other.

“There’s a lot of great stuff in life from the top to the bottom and from the left to the right, and life is magical and I guess my thing is I wish that people wanted that magic,” he says.

Cupcake Wars aired its ninth season in December. Oprah’s Master Class will feature Sharon Stone on its next episode airing July 27 on OWN.
