Watch: Broadway’s ‘Aladdin’ Cast Pay Tribute to Robin Williams and His Genie

Robin's Cause of Death
Coroner reveals how Robin Williams died.
Broadway is also mourning the loss of Robin Williams.

On Tuesday night, the cast of Aladdin paused to sing a song in honor of the actor’s career and legacy.

Led by James Monroe Iglehart, who plays Genie (a role Williams voiced for the 1992 Disney film), the stage talent and the audience belted out a heartwarming performance of “Friend Like Me.”

Williams, 63, was found dead in his California home on Monday. The Marin County Sheriff’s Department ruled the next day that the Oscar winning actor had died from asphyxiation due to hanging.

On Wednesday, all of Broadway will pay tribute to Williams a minute-long lights out along the Great White Way at approximately 7:45 p.m. EST.

In 2011 Williams starred in the Broadway production of Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo. Some 10 years prior, he held a one-man show called “Robin Williams: Live on Broadway.”
