Well that would be a twist.

Daryl Dixon, played by Norman Reedus on The Walking Dead, may very week be gay, according to comic series creator and show producer Robert Kirkman.

In the letters section of The Walking Dead comic book issue No.130, Kirkman is asked about the comic book series-only character Jesus, who is a badass just like Daryl, but unlike Daryl and his ambiguous sexually, has been explicitly confirmed as gay.

Comparing Jesus in the comic series to Daryl on the show, the reader posed the question as to whether or not Daryl could also be gay, to which Kirkman replied:

“All I can say is that it’s been discussed. We have very specific ideas about Daryl’s sexuality (or the seeming lack thereof), and if there’s ever a quiet period in the show where he’s not consistently distracted by crossbowing… we’ll tackle it in the show.”

Kirkman was also asked if AMC would be okay with Daryl being gay, and confirmed, “For the record, they absolutely would.”

The Walking Dead fifth season premieres Sunday, October 12 at 9pm ET on AMC. Watch the season 5 trailer below.
