Ed Sheeran Responds to Miley Cyrus Feud Rumors
It was the lip-reading seen around the world when cameras caught Miley Cyrus allegedly calling Ed Sheeran an "asshole" as he was approaching the stage to accept his MTV VMA trophy for Best Male Video on Aug. 24. Since then, the rumor mill had been churning with reports that the two singers are feuding.
So, what is the deal between Sheeran and Cyrus?
"Well, I don't know why people were expecting [a high-five]. I've never met her," Sheeran, 23, said about not interacting with Cyrus during his walk to the podium. "There was a high-five between me and [Scooter Braun] because I know him, and that was the only high-five. I don't know what people we're expecting."
"I think she's a fantastic artist," he continued, when asked about a potential collaboration. "She's got a great voice and writes great songs."
In a 2013 interview with The Mirror, Sheeran praised Cyrus, 21, for her musical abilities but disapproved of the way she presented herself to the public, fueling rumors that the musicians were having a spat.
"If I had a daughter of mine, I wouldn’t want her twerking," he said at the time. "When I first heard 'Wrecking Ball,' I thought it was a brilliant song. But the video distracts too much from it."
Cyrus has since retired from twerking altogether.
