Joan Rivers ‘Resting Comforably’ After Health Scare

Joan Rivers is “resting comfortably,” her daughter Melissa Rivers told the Associated Press in a statement about her mother’s present condition.

The 81-year-old comedian was placed in a medically induced coma yesterday after going into cardiac arrest during throat surgery.

The E! fashion critic reportedly stopped breathing while undergoing surgery on her vocal chords yesterday (August 29th) at a doctor’s office. She was rushed to Mount Sinai hospital.

Initially, her condition was listed as critical but it seems to be improving.

Joan’s daughter Melissa, 46, who flew from Los Angeles yesterday to be by her mom’s side, did not elaborate on Joan’s condition, but asked fans to continue to pray for the comedian.

“We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers,” she said. She also thanked everyone for the “overwhelming love and support.”

The sharp-tongued New York native has been very busy of late: she released a book this summer, Diary of a Mad Diva; she co-stars with her daughter on the WEtv reality show, Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best?; and she continues to perform stand-up at venues around the country.

Rivers was actually scheduled to perform at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, New Jerse tonight, but the show has since been postponed.
