Joan Rivers Star-Studded Funeral Happening Now in NYC

Making sure that her death is just as extravagant as her life, Joan Rivers packed ‘em in Sunday morning for her heartfelt funeral service in New York City.

Held at Temple Emanu-El, on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, everyone from Kathy Griffin, Clive Davis, Donald TrumpSarah Jessica Parker, Matthew BroderickWhoopi Goldberg, Bernadette Peters, Andy Cohen, Kathy Lee Gifford, Giuliana Rancic, Kelly Osbourne, Hoda Kotb, Diane Sawyer and Howard Stern were in attendance.

In the hours before the service began, according to the Associated Press, barricades lined several blocks of Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue, and a crowd of fans and media stood watch across the street.

No word yet on what the service entailed, but we’re sure it was extravagant if it was anything like what she wanted. It was noted in her in her 2012 book “I Hate Everyone … Starting With Me” that she hoped for “a huge showbiz affair with lights, cameras, action” and “Hollywood all the way.” Instead of a rabbi talking, Rivers asked for “Meryl Streep crying, in five different accents” and “a wind machine so that even in the casket my hair is blowing just like Beyonce’s.”

Joan’s publicist had also asked anyone wanting to send flowers to send donations to God’s Love, We Deliver; Guide Dogs for the Blind; or Our House instead.

It’s also been noted that she wanted to be buried in a Valentino gown with a Harry Winston toetag. That will have probably not happened, as Rivers casket was taken to a crematorium on Saturday just after Melissa Rivers, alongside her son Cooper, said their goodbyes.

Joan Rivers died on September 4th, exactly a week following a diagnostic procedure on her throat in a NY clinic. The 81-year-old comedian stopped breathing during the procedure and was rushed to a nearby hospital where she remained until her passing.
