Kate Middleton and Prince William Are Expecting Their Second Child

Here is some royally fantastic news to start off your week: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge — Prince William and Kate Middleton — are expecting their second child.

The official announcement is as follows:

Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting their second child.

The Queen and members of both families are delighted with the news.

As with her first pregnancy, The Duchess is suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum. Her Royal Highness will no longer accompany The Duke of Cambridge on their planned engagement in Oxford today. The Duchess of Cambridge is being treated by doctors at Kensington Palace.

A spokesperson for Kensington Palace said that they made the announcement despite the Duchess not even being 12 weeks pregnant because of the Hyperemis Gravidarum — which causes severe nausea, dehydration, and vomiting. This will likely affect some of the Duchess’ ability to attend upcoming events, and thus the announcement was made. In fact, Middleton was scheduled to appear at Oxford University’s formal opening for a new center dedicated to the study of China, but William will attend in her place.

Of course, The Duke and Duchess have a son, Prince George of Cambridge, who was born July 22, 2013.

The Duke and Duchess’ second child will be fourth in line to the throne following Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince George.
